Frequently Asked Questions
What will happen to my roof?
Nothing. In effect, all that will happen is that your roof will get an additional layer and will be more protected from the elements.
Do I need to invest money upfront?
We have flexible payment plans ranging from Capex (Upfront investment), OPEX / BOOT (Pay as you use) to Lease.
Does Powerhut India manufacture photovoltaic panels?
No we don’t. We source panels from Tier -1 manufacturers globally.
What is Net Metering & what is Gross Metering?
Net Metering: Under this framework, the energy generated from the rooftop system is first used internally (by the rooftop owner’s facility to meet internal loads) and the excess is exported to the grid only to be netted out against energy imports at other times.
Gross Metering : Under this framework, all the energy generated from solar rooftop systems is exported to the grid with no internal consumption at the rooftop owner’s facility. The FIT denotes the price paid by the utility for the solar power from the rooftop.
How long is the life of the system?
We design systems to last beyond 25 years.
Do I need to make modifications to my roof?
In most cases, roof modifications are not required. We will assess your roof and, when confirmed suitable, will make all the arrangements ourselves.
What will be the average life of the solar panels?
The solar panels have a warranty for a period of 25 years, however, the projected life is longer.
How does it integrate into the building system?
The evacuation of solar power happens in the LT room, in most cases at 415 V.
Does a solar PV system produce same energy output throughout the day?
Since Solar PV works on the basis of the intensity of sunlight it gets, your solar system typically wakes up at around 6am in the morning and goes to sleep at about 6 or 7pm in the evening. The energy output increases gradually and peaks at around noon and then gradually decreases as the sun starts setting.
How do I know how much power the system has generated?
We will install a meter at the “injection point” where the power generated from the system will be injected into your electrical system. The generation data shall also be visible online through the web portal and mobile application.
How do I know my roof can take the weight of the photovoltaic system?
Solar systems do not weigh much and usually this is not an issue. In all cases, Powerhut India’s Team will ask you for the technical information about your roof structure in order to make an assessment.
Do you have an online app that will allow me to monitor the performance of the panels even if I am away from the site?
Yes, we do provide an app or web-based link that can be used to see the up-to-date performance of your system.
What are the main components of a solar power system?
Solar modules (panels) and inverters are the main components of a solar power system and they constitute 70% of project cost.
How much area is required to install a rooftop solar system?
1 kWp solar system requires approximately 10 sq. m (or 100 sq. ft) of shadow free area. Therefore, one 1 MWp (1000 kWp) solar system would require 10,000 sq. m / 1,00,000 sq. ft / 3 acres of shadow free area.
Do we need to take any precaution for wind loads?
Yes, wind load is considered. The wind load will depend upon the exact location. The installer should consider IS standards for the specific location. But solar power plants can be designed for any wind load.
What maintenance is required for a solar power plant?
Solar photovoltaic panels have no moving parts, and therefore require little maintenance, which will include module cleaning with water every 2-4 weeks and preventive electrical maintenance every 3 months.
How much electricity will be generated by a 1MW (1000 KWP) solar plant in one year?
A 1 MW plant will generate around 15 lac units in the first year. The exact power generated will be subject to the location of the solar power plant.
Will the energy produced degrade every year?
Yes, the power produced will degrade by up to 2.5 % in the first year and up to 0.5 -0.8 % during each of the following years. In the 25th year, the solar system will still produce 80-90% of the energy produced in the 1st year.
